Wil Wheaton, over at Google+, created Don’t Be A Dick Day and designated today, July 29, his birthday, to be the day it gets celebrated.

C’mon everyone, don’t be a dick!

Seems simple enough!

how is it something so lovely and marvelous and wanted (well at least by me and most men I know) is associated with a derogatory meaning?

Reminds me of Lenny Bruce’s sensible thought that saying “Fuck you!” to somebody, to be truly insulting should really be “Un-fuck you!”

I’ve been reading Wil’s blog for years. “Don’t be a dick” is his tag line. He’s a very funny guy.

Many years ago when we lived in Macon, GA there was an obnoxious car stereo outlet that had amusingly stupid radio commercials. Their tag line was “Don’t be a duck .” (… Come to [name of store]to get your car stereo installed.) “Don’t be a duck” never made sense to me. And I never went to the place, though I heard from people who were customers that the owner was a real dick in every negative sense of the word. “Don’t be a dick” makes much more sense, but was evidently a quality the owner didn’t have.

I agree with dr. spo; I like dicks (when they are attached to sexay men!).
