My husband Greg and I are in beautiful, historic Alexandria, Virginia for a few days hunting for an apartment to move in to. We found a wonderful one here in town only about 4 miles from my work. We applied for a lease and are scheduled to move in around July 12.
The apartment is on the 10th floor looking NE towards the Pentagon, about 5.5 miles away, and the Washington Monument, about 7 miles away. One thing’s for sure, when WWIII starts we’ll be the first to know. We think a NE exposure is primo, and can’t wait to enjoy warm morning sun.
We have about 3 weeks to get a bunch of stuff sold and even more stuff boxed up and moved, all while trying to spend time with our parents in Cleveland and Toledo, plus attend Greg’s niece’s wedding in Chicago. We have no time to waste, so we’ll be getting right into it the moment we get back home.
Just last month we had to renew our Ohio licenses and car registration. Now we’ll have to get Virginia licenses and car registration and plates. Bad timing, but I’m not complaining.
Oh, and we’ll have to register to vote in Virginia too. I think Virginia is going to get a little bluer thanks to us
We’ll also have to get Virginia car insurance and renter’s insurance. Anybody know anyone in Virginia who sells insurance?

Sounds like it’s all working out nicely.
Alexandria is very nice.
Good luck with the move!
Thanks Bob
send me an email with your contact info and your new info on where in Alexandria you will be moving to… I work with some agents up there who do car and renters, also, my guy here in Richmond could really probably take care of things… just let me know… he takes care of mine and jeffs…
Yay! I knew we could count on you. I’ll email you later
Oooh, the excitement!
Btw: I take it that your neighbours-to-be passed the interview and non-prejudice test?
We won’t meet our neighbors until we are in there. We’re hoping for the best. Actually, we are hoping there are other gay folks in our building we can be friends with.
Wow! I am so excited for you guys! I love DC and have dreamed of living there. It is definitely one of my favorite cities. I was going to comment yesterday to say Virginia. After all, Ohio didn’t recognize the marriage, so you had nothing to lose. You might want to join Lambda Legal, and they will send you a kit full of instructions and forms for what all you guys should do legally as a couple (might save you some attorney’s fees by doing some things without an attorney). It’s tax deductible, unlike HRC, which is NOT. I hope you can still keep your blog alive. I read it most often, even if I don’t always comment. Not that it was ever dull, but I think it will be even more interesting! And I wish you the very best in your new career.
Thanks John
Exciting and maybe stressful times? I hope it all goes well.
Take pictures from your window views. You are quite high being on the 10th floor. Is the flat spacious? How’s the area around it?
The apartment is a little smaller than our current rental house, and with no basement (meaning no storage space). Part of the view is great, if we ignore the superhighway adjacent to the property. We overlook the complex’s courtyard and pool and we imagine we’ll be spending a lot of time on the balcony.
PM me and let me know your new address; I think I have an idea of where you may be living!
I can’t wait to come down and visit you!
Look for an email from me
I hope Virgina is a hot spot for you two
It’s going to be nice living a short train ride away from a city with a gay scene. Dayton is totally dead in that regard.
You’ll be so close to all those good museums. I could probably spend a year exploring all the Smithsonian complexes alone.
It takes a lot of courage to uproot and move, begin a new job in a new neighborhood, and leave friends and family behind…but you have each other so it should be easy. I’m sorry I’m not more help…still wishing you the best.
BEHR HUGS
I am thrilled for you both
I want to join the conga line of congratulations to you in your new chapter of life.
Yay! Glad to catch up on your news! Prepare for traffic. I loved my three years in Alexandria (many moons ago)
Good Luck!
