Circle of Friends Award

circle-of-friends-award-1Another award?  That’s right — I won TWO awards in two days!  Suckers!

On Sunday I was given the Circle of Friends Award by my blogger friend Kyle over at Out Left.  Thank you Kyle!  Kyle is a far left gay man in New Hampshire who shares with us his social and political views and frequently blogs about cooking and movies and books.  Check him out!

Upon receiving this award I am to mention five things I enjoy or like to do, then pass the award on to others.

Amusement Parks — My favorite being Cedar Point of course, although I did fall in love with Busch Gardens Tampa Bay when we lived down there.  I love riding roller coasters.  When I was younger I loved the back seat especially because it is so rough, but now that I’m older and decrepit I’m happy to sit in the middle where it’s safe.

Exercising — I never thought in a million years I’d ever say it, but it’s true.  I went 43 years without ever voluntarily and intentionally exercising for even one hour, and now that I’ve started I cannot get enough.  I’ve exercised one and a half to two and a half hours a day, every day for the last five months, only missing a handful of days due to traveling or holidays.  Thank God they put personal televisions on each of the cardio machines!

Hiking/Exploring Outdoors — Both Greg and I love this.  I just wish there were more good places to go around here.  This part of Ohio is quite flat and uninteresting, so when we travel we make sure we take the time to explore some good trails wherever we are.  However even city exploration is fun.  We walked all over midtown Manhattan when we were there last June for the Pride March and had fun every minute even though we were dying by the end of the day!

Blogging — Is that too obvious?  I only discovered blogging last spring unlike so many of you who have been doing it for years.  More than anything I love reading the personal anecdotes of gay men from across America and around the world.  And I love using this outlet to share of myself with others.

Cooking — I love cooking because it is a cool mix of art and science.  The chemical engineer part of me loves experimenting with ingredients, making substitutions, and tweaking the amounts while the food connoisseur in me loves mixing tastes and textures and colors.  Lately I’ve been on a soup kick.  I am making the best pots of soup.  So good that I astound myself.  Secret tip: it’s all in the broth!

Now I’d like to pass on this Award to other bloggers whom I appreciate.

John at I Got Somethin’ To Say!

R.G. at Dulce Y Peligroso

J.P. at Life is Such a Sweet Insanity

Dave at Ultra Dave

Mark at Tales of the Sissy

Go visit each of them.  They’re some of my favorites.

Did I just read you like it “rough in the rear”? ……Oh, never mind.

By the way, I always enjoyed hiking in Hueston Woods north of Oxford:  www.huestonwoodsresort.com

I “discovered” exercise in my late 30′s and continued into my mid 50′s when my body finally screamed “stop”.  I remember how cranky I used to get, if I did not exercise daily.  (There is a physiological explanation for it.)  How I wish my back, etc., would permit me to do it again!
